Project Description

Tasu partnered with Shxw’ōwhámél LandSea Limited Partnership (SLLP) on the construction and operation of a large-scale workforce accommodation camp near Hope, BC. Known as Sqémél Lá:lém, which translates to “Pit House Lodge,” this modular camp was thoughtfully designed to support both current and future workforce needs. The facility has the capacity to expand to 600 rooms, with a final build-out of 488 rooms, offering comfortable, well-equipped accommodations.

From the outset, this project was rooted in collaboration and community impact. Together with Shxw’ōwhámél First Nation, Tasu Construction was committed to creating meaningful employment and training opportunities for Indigenous community members during the installation of this modular camp. Several initiatives were developed to ensure these opportunities were accessible and impactful. As a result, Indigenous workers represented approximately 20% of the construction workforce and 40% of the operations team. This initiative was a direct reflection of the project’s commitment to local economic participation, skills development, and long-term community benefits.
